Packing up toys or your kids’ playroom for the upcoming move doesn’t have to be stressful with these tips we are about to share with you. Before we get into the details, let’s talk about all the packing materials you will need:
- Boxes or plastic bins
- Plastic wrap
Separate toys into categories
Before you get into the actual packing, separate all the toys into three categories: keep, donate, and discard. As you sort them all out, you will save yourself time and be able to stay organized!

Pack toys depending on their characteristics
After figuring out what you will keep, donate, or discard, it’s time to get into the actual packing! Group together toys with similar shapes, sizes, and categories. When you put them into boxes, label them accordingly: board games, building blocks, dolls, trucks/cars, stuffed animals, etc. Some helpful tips:
- Tip 1: Put small pieces such as Legos and small toys in Ziploc bags so they don’t get lost during the move
- Tip 2: Protect fragile items with plastic wrap
- Tip 3: Save time and leave toys in their plastic bins and cover them up with a plastic wrap
- Tip 4: Remove batteries from toys so they don’t corrode
Leave packing toys until the last minute.
The last thing you would want is to have your kids occupied in between all the chaos in the middle of a move. If possible, pack their playroom last or pack first the toys they use least frequently.
Involve the children in the packing process
Make packing a fun family activity! One way to keep them entertained is to involve them in the packing process. If they are old enough, you can make the move a fun game for them.
